When exposed to the air, it easily absorbs water and carbon dioxide and gradually becomes basic magnesium carbonate. Choosing the calcination method and controlling the light calcination temperature are important means to obtain good activity. As the calcination temperature increases, the specific surface area of MgO decreases significantly. When the temperature is higher than 1000°C, the recrystallization rate of MgO will increase, the dispersion will drop sharply, and the activity will become poor. Using different calcination methods and calcination equipment at the same temperature is also an important factor affecting the activity of MgO. If calcined in a boiling furnace or suspension furnace, it can be quickly decomposed in an instant to obtain active light-burned magnesia powder. Using tunnel kilns and reflector kilns with large blocks, the calcination time is long, which tends to cause over-burning on the surface and raw burning inside, which will reduce the activity of light-burned magnesia powder. The use of rotary kiln to calcinate granular magnesite is somewhere in between, and the light burnt magnesia powder can also maintain better activity.


Light burned magnesia powder is a raw material with medium alkalinity and chemical activity. In addition to being used as a refractory material and cementing material, it is also used in other industrial fields. At present, the technology of protecting the furnace by splashing slag mostly uses light-burned magnesia powder into balls, including light-burned magnesia powder balls, carbon-containing light-burned magnesia balls and carbon-containing calcium-containing light-burned magnesia balls.
